I was part of the playtest group for this pack, and during the course of the past few months spent quite a few nights running Shermans around against Tom Mueller. Here are some of my impressions of the pack:
13 Scenarios all of which, except 2, include various variants of Shermans, from the M4 to the Jumbo. The Dozers are even used! The pack lets you follow in the footsteps of the US 2nd Armor Division as it fights from Sicily through Belgium finally arriving at "Hitler's Bridge" in Uerdingen, Germany. A nice idea, following a particular unit through the war. One can see how and when the different variants of the Sherman were introduced and their impact on game play.
Chas starts off the pack with an article about the division which he calls "arguably the most powerful division during WW2". It highlights the history of the unit, complete with its OOB for you history buffs. He did a lot of research for this article.
Two articles for the armor fan are included, one written by Chas, the other by Matt Shostak who recently had an article in the ASL Journal. If you are an armor newbie, don't shy away from this pack! This is the perfect opportunity for you to learn. The articles alone will help you immensely. Matt and Chas cover a variety of tactics, and spell out for you the DRMs by To Hit and Kill Case for you in different situations as examples are given of how Shermans can successfully attack German armor. For the armor pros out there, you'll have plenty of opportunity to rumble around the map. AFV counter density ranges from 2 Shermans in "Redlegs as Infantry" to over 50 combined US and German AFV's on 3 boards in "In the Bag" with US fighter bombers making an appearance. Wow.
The scenarios offer a wide range of tactical situations, from the taking of a ridge in Canacatti to assaulting the Board 6 Chateau with the help of British Crocidiles in "Inhumaine", to the crossing of an AT ditch in the face of Panthers in "Trench Warfare".
A bonus scenario for Eddie Z's God Save the King is included. It gives us Graebner's assault over the Arnhem bridge. A SASL mission "Get me that Bridge" also is in the pack. A new DASL map (unmounted) is included as are some DASL rubble overlays. 3 of the 13 scenarios are DASL.
The pack is full color. Articles and Scenarios. The scenario cards are done with color maps, not just the usual mapboard layout depiction, but the color VASL mapboard images right on the card. Terrain and all! It looks very sharp. VASL counters in full color also are laid out in the OOB section.
For the $22, you get a lot of good stuff!
